The Palo Alto Humane Society has been alleviating the suffering of animals through innovative education programs, intervention and advocacy in the Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton and other mid-Peninsula communities for over a century. PAHS focuses its efforts on community-based promotion of animal care, especially the spaying and neutering of animals to keep kittens, puppies, and bunnies from trying to survive on the streets or ending up unwanted in animal shelters. PAHS invites all Palo Alto and mid-Peninsula residents to find out how they can help to maintain the original and effective programs we offer.

Humane Society Donations

There are many ways that supporters can help to advance the efforts of PAHS. Financial contributions are an on-going need and the greatest help in funding our programming. Humane Society Donations contribute to a number of services including:

Maintain the HelpLine,
Create and manage humane programs,
Affect public perception and action,
Fund spaying and neutering to manage animal populations, which prevents subsequent euthanasia in animal shelters,
Provide care through life saving emergency veterinary care funding,
Speak on behalf of critical animal issues, and protect human-animal bonds through veterinary assistance to those unable to afford it.

Donations are not the only ways that our Humane work can be supported. There are numerous other options as well:

Become an annual donor at one of our life-saving levels: Benefactor- $200-$499, Advocate-$500-$999, Compassionate Giving: $1,000-$4,999, Circle of Life: $5,000 or more. There are many more ways listed at our website for additional methods of giving.

Humane Society Volunteers Atherton Humane Society Volunteers

We always welcome Humane Society Volunteers!

PAHS is a volunteer run organization and we are always looking for eager and passionate Humane Society Volunteers to manage our programs. If you have the desire to work at a shelter, are at least 16 years old and can commit to working a minimum of 6 months, please contact Palo Alto Animal Services at (650) 496-5971. Our volunteer application can be found on our website (on our “Make a Difference” tab), along with a list of current volunteer opportunities. Have a look and if anything looks interesting please fill out the form and return it to us!

The Palo Alto Humane Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, volunteer-supported organization. PAHS is one of the few humane societies nationwide with no animal shelter. Instead of managing animals inside a shelter, we work to keep animals out of the shelter through humane programs in intervention, advocacy, and education. For a century, our mission has been to alleviate the suffering of animals, increase public sensitivity to animal issues, and elevate the status of animals in our society. PAHS depends on Humane Society Donations and Humane Society Volunteers from residents of Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Atherton.
